Letters/Sound Off: Apology to Original Pintos

I remember that in August 1969 my longtime friend Jim Zearfoss approached me about helping him coach an 80 lb. football team of 9 and 10-year-old boys because the 100 lb. Colts had so many young kids signed up and they did not want to just cut them.

If I recall right, this decision was made by Bill Flynn.

To be honest, I might have known at the time there was an 80 lb. before us, but I cannot remember if I did.

So, when deciding to see about organizing a reunion of the guys who played under Jimmy, I just stuck the word \”original\” in there. My mistake and there was no intention to slight the original Gloucester City Pintos team.

Anyway, was that a Lenape team you played in the bowl game?

They thought they had a \”easy mark\” when they invited us to play one of their teams in the 1969 Lenape Bowl at the Atlantic City Convention Hall. Final score, 18-0 Gloucester!
