CAMDEN CITY NJ – The Shelby Post 82 players weren’t intimidated with the Ben Franklin Bridge rising up above the center field wall.

All they were concerned with was the Brooklawn, NJ, team they were facing Wednesday afternoon and they took care of business with a 4-0 triumph.

Shelby’s win came against a program that has reached the American Legion World Series 10 times since 1990, including the last two seasons. But Shelby pitchers Phillip Black and Ethan Carpenter combined to limit Brooklawn to two hits in the win.

Four runs in the second inning proved all that Post 82 would need. Jackson Mims delivered a bases-loaded single for the first run, then Cody Fitch followed with a two-run single. A throwing error on the play allowed Mims to dash all the way around with the fourth run for Shelby.

Post 82 would bang out 13 hits on the day but leave a ton of runners aboard the rest of the way.

Shelby (9-3) was to play at Spring City, Pa., later on Wednesday.
