PHILADELPHIA, PA (November 8, 2025) (CNBNews)– Last Saturday, a heartwarming gathering took place at the Philadelphia Veterans’ Rehab Hospital, where friends and family of former Gloucester City resident Jimmy Barrett came together to brighten his day. Among the visitors was former Gloucester City Mayor Dan Spencer, who, along with a talented group of musicians—Rick Tierno, Tommy King, Bobby Farrell, Frankie Anello, and Nick from the Woodland String Band—filled the room with the enchanting sounds of music. They serenaded Jimmy and the other veterans, creating a lively atmosphere that echoed with joy.

Mayor Spencer expressed the sentiment beautifully: “Today, we had the privilege of spreading joy and happiness to our dear friend Jimmy and the valiant veterans who have selflessly served our great nation. Jimmy was not only a beloved friend but also an inspiring banjo player with the Garden State String Band and a spirited bass guitarist with the Our Gang Band. Their camaraderie was palpable, as Rick, Tommy, Bobby, Danny, and Frankie—fellow musicians and lifelong friends—shared in the cherished memories of the New Year’s Day parades they had marched in together down Broad Street for countless years.”

Spencer said, “The visit brought immense joy to Jimmy, who was animatedly clapping his hands and tapping his feet, singing along with the music. His laughter and smiles radiated throughout the room, a reminder of the unbreakable spirit of friendship. I urge everyone who reads this article to offer their prayers for Jim, our enduring friend, and for all the veterans in the home, deserving of our heartfelt wishes and support. We are thankful to all of them for their service and sacrifices.”
