AMAC Supports Bill to Protect American Citizenship
The Honorable Tom Emmer
House Majority Whip
6th Congressional District of Minnesota
326 Cannon House Office Building
Washington, DC 20515
Dear Majority Whip Emmer,
On behalf of AMAC Action, the advocacy affiliate of the Association of Mature American Citizens (AMAC), with over 2 million members nationwide, I am writing to express our strong support for the Stop Citizenship Abuse and Misrepresentation Act (SCAM Act).
American citizenship is a privilege that carries both rights and responsibilities. The naturalization process is built on good faith, on the understanding that applicants are truthful, law-abiding, and committed to the values and security of the United States. When that process is undermined by fraud or the commission of aggravated felonies shortly after naturalization, it erodes public trust and weakens the integrity of our immigration system.
The SCAM Act rightly clarifies what common sense already tells us: individuals who engage in such serious misconduct never met the legal or moral requirements for naturalization in the first place. By providing clear statutory authority to address these abuses, this legislation strengthens national security, protects American taxpayers, and reinforces the principle that citizenship cannot be obtained or retained through deception. The SCAM Act promotes accountability while upholding the rule of law. It ensures that consequences are tied to proven misconduct, not lawful immigration or peaceful participation in American society. This balance is essential to maintaining both fairness and credibility in our immigration system.
Your legislation will help restore confidence in the naturalization process and affirm that American citizenship is reserved for those who obtain it honestly and uphold the responsibilities it entails.
Sincerely,
Andrew J. Mangione Jr.
