
GLASSBORO, NJ – Evan McCoach hit a two-run triple for the gamewinner and Brett Chiesa drove in two runs as #6 Rowan rallied late to overtake Haverford, 9-7, in non-league baseball action today. The victory extends the Profs’ winning streak to six and their overall record to 22-3.
It was McCoach’s lone hit of the day but it gave the Profs an 8-7 lead. Chiesa, making his first career start, went 2-for-3 with a run and two RBI while Mason Dorsey and Jason Schooley scored two runs each.
With Rowan trailing 7-5 in the eighth, Nick Struble led off with a single and after being moved around scored on Joey Bogart’s sacrifice fly. McCoach had the hit of the game, sending a triple to centerfield to scored Dorsey and Chiesa with the tying and winning runs. Damon Suriani brought home McCoach with an insurance run.
Christian Rice earned his first save of the year as he retired three straight Haverford batters, with two strikeouts. Jack Norton (2-0) picked up the win when pitched a scoreless eighth inning.
Chiesa got Rowan on the board first with an infield single that scored Schooley. The Fords tied it in the second on an RBI single by Will Schroen and then took a 3-1 lead in the third on a two-run homer from Luke Treese. Jack Phiel added a two-run single in the fourth and Haverford (10-18) tacked on another run in the fifth to take a 6-1 lead.
Rowan started inching back in the sixth inning, crossing the plate three times. Struble hit a sacrifice fly by to score McCoach and then Chiesa came through with his second RBI of the game driving in Schooley with a single. Kyle Lamanteer hit a single to score Ian Murphy, pulling Rowan within 6-4.
Haverford increased its lead to 7-4 in the seventh but Rowan scored in its half of that inning as Dorsey led off with a single and eventually scored on a sacrifice fly by Schooley to get within 7-5.
The Profs resume conference play on Thursday when they host TCNJ in a single game at 3:30 p.m. Those teams will play the second game of the series in Ewing on Friday, with Rowan hosting #12 Kean on Saturday in a doubleheader. It is Alumni Day and the 2025 Profs will be presented with their Super Regional Championship rings.
