Commissioners Mark $1.3M Newton Lake Park Pier Upgrade Groundbreaking

Today at 1 p.m. the Board of Commissioners will break ground on $1.3 million in improvements to several fishing piers at Newton Lake Park. The renowned park is a 103-acre greenspace bounded by Cuthbert Boulevard, and encompasses Collingswood, Haddon Township, and Oaklyn. The lake and associated waterways had a $25 million water quality project completed in 2023, and these renovations will complement the ongoing work throughout the park system. In addition, two playgrounds were renovated within the park over the last two years.

“The Board of Commissioners are dedicated to consistently improving our parks, ensuring that they are enjoyable and accessible for all,” said Commissioner Jeffrey Nash, liaison to the Parks Department. “These improvements will create more opportunities for our residents to fish right here in Camden County, and we look forward to cutting the ribbon this fall.”

The project includes the replacement of seven fishing piers located throughout Newton Lake Park at the following areas:

  • Johnson/Lakeview Avenue
  • Colford Avenue/Lakeview Drive
  • East Bettlewood Avenue/Merrick Avenue
  • East Bettlewood Avenue
  • South Newton Lake Drive
  • East Clinton Avenue/Oaklawn Avenue
  • Newton Lake Playground

The existing fishing piers will be demolished and replaced with new, ADA compliant concrete fishing piers, ensuring improved safety and full accessibility for all park users. In addition, associated path repairs and improvements will be completed to provide accessible routes to each pier. The project is expected to be fully completed by September 2026.
