Philadelphia Police Department Incidents


At approximately 10:16 p.m. on April 25, 2026, officers from the 16th and 18th Districts, along with University of Pennsylvania Police, responded to a “person with a gun” call at 40th and Chestnut Streets. Upon arrival, they discovered a 24-year-old male victim suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back. He was immediately transported by police to Penn-Presbyterian Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition.

According to the victim, he and two others were walking near the intersection when they observed a male offender shouting to himself. As the individual approached, he reportedly began shooting at the group without provocation, striking the victim once before fleeing the scene on foot. Shortly thereafter, University of Pennsylvania Police stopped a 43-year-old male who was identified by witnesses as the shooter. The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital for treatment.

While a firearm was recovered at the scene, the motive for the shooting remains unknown at this time. 

The investigation is active and ongoing with the Shooting Investigation Group, and additional details will be shared as they become available.
