Burlington City Man Charged With 2020 Fatal Shooting

Burlington County Prosecutor LaChia L. Bradshaw and Edgewater Park Township Police Chief John Harris announced that a 32-year-old Burlington City resident has been charged with fatally shooting a man six years ago in Edgewater Park.

Jevon Mobley, of the 400 block of York Street, was charged with Murder (First Degree), Conspiracy (First Degree), Unlawful Possession of a Weapon (Second Degree) and Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose (Second Degree).

Mobley was served with the warrant yesterday inside the Burlington County Jail in Mount Holly, where he is lodged on unrelated charges. A detention hearing will be held next week in Superior Court, and the case will be prepared for presentation to a grand jury for possible indictment.

The investigation began June 11, 2020, after police were called to the Orchard Park apartment complex on Woodlane Road at approximately 11:15 p.m. for a report of a shooting. Upon arrival they found the victim lying in the street with multiple gunshot wounds. Damian Hampton, 27, of Burlington City, was pronounced dead approximately one hour later at Virtua Hospital Willingboro.

The murder and weapons charges against Mobley were filed after the results of ballistic evidence testing recently received by the Prosecutor’s Office prompted a detailed review of the case.

The investigation was conducted by the Prosecutor’s Office and the Edgewater Park Township Police Department, with assistance from the Willingboro Township Police Department and the New Jersey State Police. The lead investigators were BCPO Lt. Brian Cunningham and EPTPD Lt. Charles Ryder Jr.

Mobley will be prosecuted by Assistant Prosecutor Robert Van Gilst, supervisor of the BCPO Major Crimes Unit

All persons are considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
