
Montclair State University began operating NJ PBS on July 1, returning management of New Jersey’s public television network to a New Jersey-based institution after more than a decade under New York-based WNET.
Montclair’s College of Communication and Media will manage the state’s four public television stations under a five-year agreement, with options for two additional five-year extensions. The transition comes as public media and local news organizations face growing financial pressure and raises important questions about the role universities can play in sustaining civic information.
