Had it not been for the efforts of hunters, snow goose numbers could have spiraled out of control and nature would have provided a correction: The geese would have decimated their own nesting habitat, then starvation and disease would have set in. Recovering from such catastrophic population crashes takes decades.
Hunting proved to be a viable option to control the population.
The conservation order extends the hunting season for snow geese, including the blue-color phase, and Ross\’s geese until April 30, with no bag limit. A valid Missouri migratory bird hunting permit is the only permit required.
