The sound of barking dogs reverberated throughout the Orangeburg County Fairgrounds Thursday afternoon as rows of pickup trucks with license plates from North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Tennessee, Florida, Indiana and Maryland lined the grassy fairgrounds lawn.
The 43rd annual Grand American Hunt and Show\’s prehunt Coon Fest, sponsored by Orangeburg\’s New Hope Baptist Church, drew an estimated 500 coon hunters eager to share in a little fellowship, down-home Southern cooking and some gospel favorites.
