Firefighter Spot: Horsing Around Bar & Grill Destroyed In Fire

Fire units were dispatched to 1118 Black Horse Pike in Folsom at about 4:15 AM for a reported fire. First due units found heavy smoke pushing from a 1 ½ story frame building with a bar on the first floor and an apartment above. The building also had a one story extension on the \”B\” side. The fire appeared to have started in the basement and after confirming that all the residents had safely evacuated and with the fire possibly burning for some time in the basement, a second alarm was transmitted and operations went defensive.

Burning fuel oil in the basement made extinguishment more difficult. A third alarm was sounded as a tanker relay was established to supply a ladder pipe, a tower ladder and numerous handlines. Flames eventually spread to the one story extension.

Firefighters from fourteen Fire Companies from three counties battled the blaze which took about four hours to control. No serious injuries were reported. New Jersey State Police Arson Investigators from the Buena Vista Barracks were called to the scene to help determine the cause.
