Resorts Casino Hotel Makes History with Record-Breaking $1.78 Million Jackpot

A record-breaking $1,782,962 jackpot was hit at Resorts Casino Hotel on Monday, June 8, marking the largest brick-and-mortar win in Atlantic City this year and one of the biggest jackpots in Resorts’ 48-year history. 

The lucky winners, Sindy and Louis of Long Island, had just checked in and headed to the casino floor before lunch. They were down to their last $10 spin and were able to work their way back up to $670 when they struck a massive payline on high limit Wheel of Fortune Double Times Pay 3x4x5x® slots with the signature Wheel of Fortune 3x, 4x and 5x symbols landing across the reels. While they knew they had hit big,they didn’t immediately  realize they had won nearly $2 million on a $10 bet. 

“My wife and I are both retired, and we’re moving to Melbourne, Florida, next month to be closer to our grandkids. This win really makes the life we’ve been planning with them even more special – and maybe a few Disney trips are in our future,” Louis said with a big smile. 

The Wheel of Fortune jackpot is part of an interstate wide-area progressive, a network of linked machines that grows across multiple casinos until one lucky spin hits and the amount resets.  The last major Wheel of Fortune payout at Resorts occurred on March 1, 2025, when a player won $583,186 on another $10 wager. Resorts Casino Hotel continues to establish itself as a premiere destination for slot play, awarding more than $4.5 million in wide area progressive jackpots since 2020, with 30 players securing significant wins. Shooting In Atlantic City

Atlantic City Police are investigating a shooting that injured a 16-year-old girl. Officers responded to a shooting report on the 600 block of New York Avenue at 11:43 p.m. June 2.

The girl was found suffering from a life-threatening injury, police said. She was hospitalized and is expected to survive, police said. No further information was immediately available.

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (CNBNews)(June 9, 2026)–The Atlantic City Police Department Union released the following statement regarding Police Sgt. Christian Ivanov who was critically injured after being shot in the line of duty. A GoFund Me page that has been published and those who worked with him or knew him are asking the public to donate to it. The money raised will be used towards his medical costs, for childcare, and family stability needs.

Detectives Investigating Homicide in Camden

Detectives are investigating a fatal shooting in Camden that led to a multi-vehicle crash in Pennsauken on Tuesday night, reported Camden County Prosecutor Grace C. MacAulay and Camden County Police Chief Gabriel Rodriguez.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at approximately 7:02 p.m., officers from the Camden County Police Department responded to the 3300 block of Westfield Avenue in Camden in reference to a ShotSpotter activation. Upon arrival, officers discovered multiple shell casings and an unoccupied vehicle that had been struck by gunfire.
At approximately 7:06 p.m., officers from the Pennsauken Police Department responded to a crash involving five motor vehicles at Drexel Avenue and Route 130 in Pennsauken. Upon arrival, officers observed that one of the vehicles had been struck by gunfire. The driver – later identified as 36-year-old Izaiah Minzy of Westville – was found to be suffering from a gunshot wound. Minzy was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased at approximately 8:11 p.m. Six other individuals occupying vehicles involved in the crash sustained minor injuries.
This investigation is active and ongoing. No arrests have been made at this time. Van Drew Announces Grant for Atlantic City Airport

Congressman Van Drew announced that the Atlantic City International Airport (ACY) will receive $8,777,683 in federal funding through the Federal Aviation Administration’s Airport Infrastructure Grant program. The funding will support the construction of the new 3,800-foot Taxiway R to help strengthen airport operations.
“Atlantic City International Airport is one of the most important economic engines in South Jersey, and this investment is going to help ensure it continues growing and competing for years to come,” said Congressman Van Drew. “At the same time, my office has been in ongoing conversations with airlines to expand air service in South Jersey that will fully replace Spirit. I think people are going to be excited about what is ahead, and there will be more announcements coming soon. ACY has a strong future, and we are only going to keep building on this momentum.”
“On behalf of the entire South Jersey Transportation Authority, we thank Congressman Van Drew for securing this critical $8.7 million investment for the Atlantic City International Airport,” said Stephen F. Dougherty, SJTA Executive Director. “This funding moves Phase 3 of our Taxiway R improvement project forward and represents a major step toward bringing the airport into conformity with current aviation standards.
