How Can You Fight a Sex Crime Charge?

Sex crime cases remain a significant part of the U.S. criminal justice system. And unfortunately, there are reports of tens of thousands of rape and sexual assaults annually in the US, according to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Worse still, experts believe that there are still many incidents that go unreported.

Those who are accused of the crime face one of the most serious criminal charges a person can face in the US. You will face a jail term, hefty fines, compulsory registration as a sexual offender, housing and employment constraints, and a tarnished reputation in the community.

Accused individuals need defensive strategies to fight the charge, according to Nassau County sex crime lawyer Michael D. Elkin. But first, you may need to secure legal representation to ensure your rights are protected from the start.

From Recalls To Recourse: A Consumer’s Guide To Holding Companies Accountable When They Cause Harm

Every week, another company quietly pulls a product from shelves. A drug manufacturer adds a new warning label. A bank pays a fine. A car maker issues a recall. Most consumers see the headlines, shrug, and move on. The story sounds far away from their own lives.

It usually is not.

If you have been injured by a product, harmed by a medication, exposed in a data breach, or charged improperly by a financial company, you may have recourse you did not know existed. The system that converts corporate misconduct into actual compensation for the people affected is not advertised by the companies involved, for obvious reasons. But it is real, it is used by millions of Americans every year, and it does not require you to be a lawyer to navigate.

Letter to the Editor: NJ 4th in the nation for distracted driving and deaths

Hi William,

New Jersey ranks 4th in the nation for distracted driving in Zutobi’s newly released 2026 Distracted Driving Report — and recorded the largest single-year increase in distracted driving deaths of any state in the country.

In 2024, 221 people were killed in crashes involving a distracted driver in New Jersey — up 28.5% from 172 in 2023. 42% of all crashes in New Jersey involved a distracted driver, one of the highest shares in the nation.

What makes this particularly striking is the policy context. New Jersey has banned handheld cellphone use while driving since 2003 — one of the first states in the country to do so — and treats it as a primary offense, meaning police can pull drivers over for phone use alone. Despite over two decades of legislation and fines of up to $800 for repeat offenders, distracted driving deaths rose by nearly a third in a single year.

A Hidden Driver of Small Businesses’ Soaring Health Costs

By Karen Kerrigan

Small business owners are struggling to keep up with the rising cost of health care. Nearly a third have stopped offering health benefits as premiums continue to climb.

It is critical that lawmakers understand the reasons for rising costs and begin to address them – or small businesses will continue to drop health coverage due to unsustainable costs. One of these reasons is hospitals’ exploitation of a little-known federal charity program. Without reforms, that program will continue to drive up costs for small businesses and the self-employed.

What Should You Do After a Motorcycle Accident?

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, motorcyclists constitute only 3 percent of registered vehicles on the United States roadways but were responsible for 15 percent of deaths in 2024. This statistic means that fatalities for motorcyclists per every distance covered are 27 times higher than the rate for passenger cars.

According to Willoughby motorcycle accident lawyer Matthew A. Lallo, most motorcycle accidents occur as a result of drivers failing to watch for motorcycles or miscalculating the speed or distance of the bikers.

Decisions taken during the first hours following the accident determine both medical results and legal outcomes. To further illustrate, a motorcycle injury can severely affect one’s recovery when key evidence vanishes immediately.

The Hidden Cost of Non-Compliance: Why Trucking Insurance Premiums Are Rising and How to Stop the Bleed

For owner-operators and small fleets, a poor safety record doesn’t just trigger fines — it drives insurance costs through the roof. Here’s what’s really happening and what carriers can do about it.

When Compliance Problems Become Financial Problems

For the independent trucker, a roadside violation can feel like a minor inconvenience — a citation, a fine, maybe a few hours of downtime. But in 2026, the financial ripple effect of compliance issues reaches much further. Elevated CSA scores, out-of-service orders, and regulatory gaps are increasingly driving insurance premiums to levels that threaten the viability of small fleets.

The connection between safety performance and insurance cost has never been more direct — and more punishing for those caught unprepared.
