the turmoil in the world it is nice to hear some good news now and then. Kelli Sharp, (nee Pfeffer)recently shared just such a tale with CNBNews about her family, friends and perfect strangers helping her get the Christmas Spirit.

Kelli, resides on Market Street with her husband Brett and their children. Kelli is a 1998 graduate of Gloucester High. This past summer the Sharp family lost all of their Christmas decorations they had stored in their basement because of the severe flooding on that street in June.

Sharp said, \”I, along with many members of my immediate family,

have lived, in Gloucester City our entire life. In June my immediate family and I where one of the residents on Market Street affected by the flood. We lost everything in our basement. That included all my Christmas decorations and I do mean all. I have added to my collection year after year. My children would say our house looked like a winter wonderland.\”

\”With not having decorations not even a tree I really was not feeling the Christmas spirit this year.

My brother took to Facebook on Nov 30.

My aunt, Connie Devoe, reached out to a local organization called \”The Helpers.\”

That same night my brother showed up with a truck full of Christmas stuff. Stockings, lights, garland a tree. Decorations for the inside and outside of my house.\”

\”I was overwhelmed with the generosity.

I can\’t thank everyone enough who helped us this year. It meant so much to me and my family.

We spent this past Sunday decorating.\”

\”There is so much sadness and death in the world. Somedays that is all you hear about on the television or radio. The people who helped us have instilled my trust and confidence in the human race.\”

Mount Holly\’s Holiday Tree Lighting, Celebration Friday

Mount Holly, NJ

– Come celebrate the most wonderful time of the year at Mount Holly’s Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony on Friday, December 6, 2019 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Mount Holly’s downtown district will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland for this family-friendly event, sponsored by Mount Holly Township. This event is free and open to the public.

The celebration will feature live performances from a variety of acts, including but not limited to the Lumberton school of music, Mount Holly Township School children’s choir, Dansation School of Dance and more.

Santa, Mrs. Claus and their elves will also make an appearance, helping to light the township’s Holiday Tree, located at the intersection of Washington and High Streets, with more than 3,000 lights. Once the tree is lit, all will be invited to have their pictures taken with Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Several roads will be closed throughout the evening’s event to accommodate pedestrian foot traffic. Road closures begin at 5:00 p.m., and include: High Street from Rancocas/Garden to Washington Street; and Mill Street from Pine to Park Drive. Alternate routes will be made available, and Mount Holly Police Officers will be onsite to direct traffic around the closures, and will provide members of the media guidance as to where they should park.

Media will have access to closed roads – Pine Street/Mill Street to Washington Street/Park Drive – and will be allowed to pull right into the event for easy loading/unloading and use of equipment. Please note: free, designated Media parking will be available in municipal lots – ideal lot location is the far back municipal lot, one block away from tree lighting location.

Investors and Roma Bank Community Support Trenton Area Soup Kitchen

$15,000 in Grants Will Purchase Food and Provide Meals

The Trenton Area Soup Kitchen (T.A.S.K.) feeds those who are hungry in the Trenton area and offers programs to encourage self-sufficiency and improve the quality of life of its guests.

Recent grants from the Investors Foundation and Roma Bank Community Foundation totaling $15,000 will provide food for some of the 5,800 meals T.A.S.K. serves each week at its primary facility on Escher Street and

satellite locations in North Trenton, South Trenton, West Trenton, Hamilton, Hightstown, Princeton, and Yardville.

T.A.S.K. applied for the grants from the Investors and Roma Bank Community Foundations, which support non-profit organizations that enrich the diverse communities served by Investors Bank. Roma Bank became part of Investors Bank in December 2013.

According to Executive Director Joyce Campbell, in addition to providing food, T.A.S.K. also works to help nourish the minds of its guests. T.A.S.K. offers an Adult Education Program (18 years and older) that provides one-on-one tutoring in basic literacy, math, High School Equivalency Test preparation, and computer skills. According to Campbell, “Volunteer tutors offer caring, friendly assistance.” Students meet with the program coordinator to set their own goals and timelines. All of the necessary materials – books, notebooks, pens, and even reading glasses – are provided by T.A.S.K.

“T.A.S.K. could not turn hunger to hope for our patrons without the financial support of Investors Bank and Roma Bank Community Foundation. They play a critical role in helping T.A.S.K. meet its mission,” said Campbell.

Investors Bank District Manager Linda Martin and Assistant Vice President and Hamilton Center City Branch Manager Jason LaViscount presented the checks to Campbell. “Investors is proud to support T.A.S.K. in its mission to feed those in the Trenton area who are food insecure,” said Martin. “We know that your efforts go beyond feeding the hungry, and extend to providing assistance so your guests can gain self-sufficiency.”

Turnersville Resident Participates in Widener University Study Abroad Program

CHESTER, PA (12/02/2019)– Undergraduate students at Widener University returned home after spending the fall semester abroad in countries across countries in Europe and in Australia. The international learning experiences allowed students to gain a global understanding and prepare them for careers in an increasingly diverse and interconnected world.

\”Widener\’s long-term study abroad program provides students with life changing experiences,\” said Kandy Turner, director of International Student Services and Programs. \”Studying in a foreign country is an excellent opportunity for students to grow both professionally and personally through honing critical skills, such as adaptability and independence, as they prepare to enter into their respective fields. These opportunities complement their academic work on campus while introducing them to different cultures, customs and traditions across the globe.\”

Welding is a senior psychology major and a resident of Turnersville.

Catholic Social Services of the Philadelphia Archdiocese Receives Nearly 13,000 DIAPERS

Children and families who benefit from Catholic Social Services of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia’s (CSS) Beautiful Beginnings and Beautiful Parenting Programs will get a boost thanks to a recent diaper drive marking Respect Life Month.

Approximately 13,000 diapers, 180 packages of baby wipes, and other infant care essentials were collected all from the generosity of over 90 donors. This annual Diaper Drive helps to stock the shelves of CSS’ Family Service Centers located throughout the five-county metropolitan area.

Ms. Amy Stoner, Director of CSS Community Based and Homeless Services Divisions said, “Diapers are essential to a baby’s healthy development. In low-income families, a baby can spend a day or more in one diaper, leading to potential serious health risks. These items will directly impact area infants, toddlers, and families who struggle to afford these basic necessities. We extend our heartfelt appreciation to those who have made this possible and for helping to advance the mission of CSS.”

In early March, CSS was named Pennsylvania’s Service Provider of the Year by Real Alternatives for the seventh consecutive year. Real Alternatives is a non-profit, charitable organization in Pennsylvania that administers pregnancy and parenting support services.

Last year alone, CSS provided comprehensive support services to more than 5,000 pregnant women. Modes of support include access to free, caring, and confidential support services, education about reproductive health concerns, prenatal and parenting support groups, assistance in finding appropriate medical services, and referral to adoption services for those who wish to explore that option.

Throughout the greater Philadelphia region, young women and mothers regularly turn to CSS facilities for emotional support and essential parenting resources needed to best care for their families. In 2018, CSS assisted more than 225,000 children, adults and families of all faiths throughout the five-county metropolitan area comprising the Archdiocese of Philadelphia.

The holiday season is all about cozying up with friends and family to share in favorite winter traditions, and the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation (DRWC) is excited to announce that on Black Friday, November 29, 2019, Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest will kick off the holiday season for the 26th year with the re-opening of an iconic Philadelphia winter experience.

Opening weekend

promises a kickoff to the season for the books and will include an Ice Skating Princesses Performance, Storytime in the Lodge with free cookies and hot chocolate, and Lego building.

Filled with all of Philadelphia’s favorite winter traditions, including skating under the stars amidst the majestic Ben Franklin Bridge on a regulation-sized Olympic outdoor ice skating rink, sipping hot chocolate and eating comfort foods in the chalet-inspired Lodge with food and beverages from Garces Group, Chickie’s and Pete’s, and Franklin Fountain, the fun lasts all season long with arcade games, storytelling adventures, late night dancing, character skating, and more at this picture-perfect winter wonderland.

Now celebrating its 26th year, Blue Cross RiverRink sparkles at night from thousands of lights strung across the site, lighting that washes vibrant colors over the rink, and a majestic holiday tree dressed in tens of thousands of twinkling LEDs (over 100,000 lumens!).

“Winterfest is one of the most festive seasonal experiences for Philadelphia residents and visitors,” said Joe Forkin, president of DRWC. “Thousands of people have been coming to the Waterfront for more than 25 years to ice skate with their families, eat great food, enjoy hot drinks in The Lodge, and just have a wonderful time. It’s a favorite winter tradition in Philadelphia.”

New this year is the design of the cabins and main Lodge. Designer Todd Marcocci of West Chester’s Under The Sun Productions was tasked with reimagining each of the cabins as well as the main Lodge. Marcocci drew his inspiration from his upbringing in Western Pennsylvania and his experiences in the mountain region.

Each of the cabins has two, brand-new, hand-sewn and custom printed Independence Blue Cross RiverRink Winterfest logo pillows trimmed in various winter colors. While the design aesthetic will feel new, the warmth and tradition of Winterfest remains.

MAIN LODGE

In the main lodge, visitors are embraced by all new soft goods that pull together familiar design elements that create the perfect winter cabin feel. The enhanced decorations are carefully contoured with trees featuring new, hand-made burlap rosettes. Countless cardinals have been incorporated into the décor to add color and texture along with pillows and plush accessories that match the cabins.

CARDINAL CABIN

The theme of this cabin was inspired by the excitement the designer experienced when his aunt would spot a cardinal in her yard during the winter season. The lush colors of red fill the cabin along with themed soft goods.

NATURE CABIN

The nature cabin was inspired by a treasured print of a farm, wagon and pine tree. The space is filled with various representations of the natural environment, along with the inspirational print.

SKI CABIN

This cabin theme was inspired by the designer’s father who was an avid skier and started his son in the sport at the age of two years old. Various skis — including a vintage set — are positioned to compliment the theme.

SKATE CABIN

The skating themed cabin was inspired by the Independence Blue Cross RiverRink, where thousands come each year to enjoy skating along the Delaware River. Vintage and modern skates, along with soft goods and pops of vibrant color, make this cabin an ideal place to hang out.

Everyone loves a snowman and this cabin features different snowman-themed props along with a snowman and snow-themed soft goods.

The kickoff to DRWC’s new

Waterfront Arts Program

saw the docking of a 90 foot holographic, site-specific 18th-century “ghost ship” adjacent to Race Street Pier. The three dimensional light and water installation, by Romanian-based Biangle Studio enjoyed a month-long run and saw over 40,000 visitors.

Looking ahead, DRWC has announced exciting developments for it’s most ambitious undertaking and a keystone of the organizations Master Plan, the

Park at Penn’s Landing

. This project includes the reconstruction and expansion of a new bridge over I-95 that will support a new 12-acre riverfront civic space, the extension of South Street Pedestrian Bridge, and the construction of a portion of the Delaware River Trail. Furthermore, DRWC announced a nationwide call for developers for these eleven acres of prime waterfront land.

Samaritan’s Tree of Life Ceremonies for Communities to Remember Your Loved Ones

Marlton, N.J. –The community is invited to a special annual tradition. Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice presents its Tree of Life ceremonies at five area locations. The moving ceremonies serve as an opportune place to gather family and friends to remember loved ones.

The candlelight ceremonies are open to the public and feature inspirational readings and music provided by local musicians and choirs, followed by refreshments and fellowship. Individuals may dedicate a light on the tree in memory of someone who has passed or in honor of someone special in their life. Proceeds from optional donations benefit the patients, families, and programs of Samaritan Healthcare & Hospice.
