American Heart Association serves up fruits and veggies on National Eating Healthy Day

Robbinsville, NJ, October 30, 2014 – National Eating Healthy Day is Wednesday, November 5, and the American Heart Association wants people to listen to the advice of generations of mothers (and fathers): eat your fruits and vegetables.

Americans typically only consume about half their recommended daily servings of fruits and vegetables. The American Heart Association recommends eating eight or more fruit and vegetable servings every day. For an average adult consuming 2,000 calories daily, that means about 4 ½ cups of fruits and vegetables a day.

DOVER (Oct. 31, 2014) – Shorter fall days – especially after daylight savings time changes on Sunday, Nov. 2 – mean more 9-to-5 workers will be driving home at dusk, and DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife reminds all Delaware motorists to remain alert for deer crossing roadways.

\”At the end of our day, we might be heading home to relax, but deer are just beginning their busiest time around dusk,\” said Division of Fish & Wildlife Game Mammal Biologist Joe Rogerson. \”From dusk up to midnight and shortly before and after sunrise, are when motorists need to be especially alert and watch for deer.\”

The Maryland Black Bear Hunt has Closed

The 11th annual Maryland black bear hunt concluded Thursday evening, with a total of 69 bears harvested.

For the first time, the hunt was carried out as a four-day season instead of being guided by a predetermined quota.

 Harry Spiker, DNR’s lead bear biologist, said he was pleased with the results despite the final total, which was below last year’s record of 94. The hunt was complicated by cold, wet and windy conditions coupled with a generally poor acorn crop—a primary bear food source–this fall.
