GTPD Responds To Two Serious Crashes Overnight 9-20-2014

Gloucester Township Police Media Release:

Crash #1: Car vs. Pedestrian – 700 block of Somerdale Road., Case #: 14-39366

On September 20, 2014 at approximately 01:03 AM, Gloucester Township Police responded to Somerdale Road for a pedestrian that was struck by a motor vehicle. Upon arrival officers found a male pedestrian collapsed on a front lawn in the 700 block of Somerdale Rd. suffering from injuries to his head and upper torso. He was taken to Cooper Hospital Trauma Center by ambulance for further evaluation, and was reported to be in critical condition. The driver stopped at the scene, and was not injured. There are no charges at this time. The identities of the driver and pedestrian are not being released at this time, pending family notifications.

Bicycle/Pedestrian bridge in Wilmington State Parks’ Brandywine Park Open

 

WILMINGTON (Sept. 17, 2014) – Almost two months to the day, the \”swinging bridge,\” part of the bicycle and pedestrian trail network in Wilmington State Parks’ Brandywine Park, has re-opened, following extensive renovations and upgrades. The bridge, which traverses Brandywine Creek, connects the Northern Delaware Greenway Trail and South Park Drive in Wilmington, and is a main artery for commuters who use the trail to walk and bicycle to and from various destinations.

RESTORATION OF OAKWOOD BEACH IN SALEM COUNTY TO BEGIN IN NOVEMBER

PRESS RELEASE

TRENTON – Work on restoring a two-mile stretch of severely eroded shoreline along the Delaware River in Salem County is expected to begin in early November following the award of a project contract by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Department of Environmental Protection Commissioner Bob Martin announced today.

The $9.9 million contract to restore Oakwood Beach in Elsinboro was made by the Army Corps of Engineers to the Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company. The project is part of the Christie Administration\’s ongoing commitment to making the state more resilient following Superstorm Sandy.

Prosecutors Office Obtains Grants for Weather Monitoring Stations to Track Toxic Gas

Paulsboro derailment prompts $150,000 grant

Working with the New Jersey Office of Homeland Security and Protection and a state climatologist, the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office has secured grants totaling $150,000 for weather monitoring stations to track the direction of toxic gas releases from rail accidents like the vinyl chloride leak in a November 2012 derailment in Paulsboro NJ.

Knowing which way the wind is blowing and at what speed can be critically important in the event a gas cloud forms over a populated area, GCPO critical infrastructure coordinator Bill Donovan said in a 9/17 presentation about the funding.
