Walmart Partnership Provides 10 Deserving Military Service Members with $50,000 in Educational Scholarships

Trenton, NJ – Broadening the Christie Administration’s strong commitment to New Jersey’s veterans, First Lady Mary Pat Christie announced yesterday the recipients of the second annual New Jersey Heroes Heart of a Hero Scholarship. Each of the ten recipients will receive a $5,000 scholarship award to help pursue a post-secondary education or vocational training. In June, Walmart continued its support of the program by donating $50,000 to assist New Jersey’s military service members make their higher education and career goals a reality.

The drama and spectacle that is Miss America has been happening in Atlantic City all this week, building for Sunday night\’s finals and crowning. With preliminary competitions over, the next big pageant-related event will happen Saturday night, when the Show Us Your Shoes parade steps off at 5 p.m. on the boardwalk.

Gloucester Catholic High School Football Team takes down Schalick – MaxPreps

PITTSGROVE, N.J. – Gloucester Catholic (Gloucester City, N.J.) had its advantage, which at one point stood at 13 points, drop to six before the final $\"042507_2141_1\"$ whistle blew on a 19-13 victory over Schalick (Pittsgrove, N.J.).

After taking the lead on a touchdown in the first quarter, the Rams were up 13-7 at the half.

Gloucester Catholic expanded its lead to 12 points entering the fourth quarter. GC\’s lone score in the quarter came on a passing touchdown.

In a non-conference game next week Schalick (0-1) takes on Gloucester City, and Gloucester Catholic (1-0) will go up against Berne-Knox-Westerlo also in a non-conference game.

CWD TO BE DISCUSSED IN YORK COUNTY

The Pennsylvania Game Commission will host a meeting Tuesday at Central York High School to discuss chronic wasting disease in Pennsylvania and the special rules that will apply to deer hunters this year in the areas where the disease has been detected.

9/2 (8:57 pm) Cassandra Jefferson (23), a resident of Blackwood, was arrested for bench warrants on Rt. 130 at Market Street.

9/2 (10:07 pm) Paul Baratti Jr. (22), a resident of Runnemede, was arrested for Possession of CDS (Controlled Dangerous Sustance) and bench warrants on Market Street at Walnut Avenue.

GLOUCESTER CITY NJ–(September 13, 2013)Ben Boyer rushed for 156 yards on 33 carries and scored two first half touchdowns to lift Gloucester City to an 18-14 victory over Pitman yesterday in Gloucester.

Boyer had scoring runs of 40 yards and 1 yard for Gloucester City, which took the lead for good on a Justin McCleery 40-yard pass to Tony Bultron in the second quarter.

Marc Camma and Eric Larson each had touchdown runs for Pitman.

Who wins the NL Cy Young?

This season has seen a lot of regular Cy Young award candidates– Matt Cain, Cole Hamels and Roy Halladay, to name a few– have uncharacteristically poor years, while some guys you would never expect– Matt Harvey, Jose Fernandez, Patrick Corbin and Hyun-Jin Ryu, among others– are creeping into the conversation. All of the confusion of who is actually good and who is just having a breakout year makes the question of who deserves the NL Cy Young a bit more complicated. Added to that, some guys have all of the intangibles to be named the best pitcher of the National League, but don\’t have the wins to back it up or don\’t play on a playoff-bound team. So, who do you name the Cy Young this year?

Man Arrested For Armed Robbery In Gloucester Township

On Monday 9/9/2013 at approximately 12:46 PM, the Gloucester Township Police Department (GTPD) received a call reporting an armed robbery at the Friendly Food Mart located at 1119 North Blackhorse Pike. The store clerk reported that the suspect entered the store, displayed a knife, and told him to give him the money from the cash register or he would kill him. The clerk was able to activate the panic button and the suspect fled the store on foot.
