BY JOHN HOWARD HUMAN EVENTS EDITOR
When you elect an inept \”community organizer\” whose primary concern is avoiding responsibility for his words and deeds as President, and pit him against the transgendered reincarnation of Rosa Klebb of \”From Russia With Love,\” you end up with crap like Vladimir Putin’s op-ed at the New York Times.
It’s formally entitled \”A Plea for Caution From Russia: What Putin Has to Say to Americans About Syria,\” but Putin spends more time slamming a battered Barack Obama against the lockers and dragging him by his underwear across the high-school gym floor. Putin tells us that a great nation would not have elected such a mediocre leader, so you might as well knock off all that \”American exceptionalism\” stuff before you hurt yourselves:
My working and personal relationship with President Obama is marked by growing trust. I appreciate this. I carefully studied his address to the nation on Tuesday. And I would rather disagree with a case he made on American exceptionalism, stating that the United States’ policy is \”what makes America different. It’s what makes us exceptional.\” It is extremely dangerous to encourage people to see themselves as exceptional, whatever the motivation. There are big countries and small countries, rich and poor, those with long democratic traditions and those still finding their way to democracy. Their policies differ, too. We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.
Yes, we’ve got a brutal Russian strongman lecturing the American president about the need to quit being a bully and start acting civilized, on the pages of the Left’s newspaper of record. Too bad the Times didn’t invest more effort in holding Obama responsible for what happened in Libya, but Vladimir Putin is happy to do it for them.

It happens at the beginning of just about every major sports season, you’re a week or so in and already there are doomsayers burying certain teams and players while others are prepared to hand out championships and MVPs. It’s kind of fun actually, like watching Jets and Eagles fans at the annual NFL draft. In any event, we’ve got one week of NFL action in the books. And while there were no shortage of surprising results and impressive individual performances, it’s a little too early for absolutes… except, of course, for these 10 things.

Seventeen years ago yesterday—on September 9, 1996—a teenager disappeared from her home in Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Tragically, she was found dead the following month. The next May, two sisters in the same county went missing after coming home from school. Five days later, their bodies were found in a river about 40 miles away.
