TCNJ’S SWIMMING AND DIVING TEAMS TALLY IMPRESSIVE WINS OVER WPU

Wayne, NJ…The College of New Jersey\’s men\’s and women\’s swimming and diving teams competed at William Paterson University on Saturday. TCNJ\’s teams both posted wins as the Lion women collected a 137-95 victory and TCNJ\’s men posted a 134.5-96.5 win. TCNJ\’s women are now 3-7 on the year, while the Lion men are now 6-3 heading into this next week\’s final dual matches with Ramapo College on February 8.

Women\’s Highlights

Freshman diver Amanda Obst (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape May Regional) won both the one and three meter events on the day as she posted a score of 186.30 in the one meter event and a 196.40 in the three meter event as the Lions opened the competition with the diving events.

TCNJ\’s rookie Margaret Molloy (Toms River, NJ/Toms River East) won the 200 butterfly in 2:12.63. Senior tri-captain Liz LaCava (Milltown, NJ/Mt. St. Mary\’s Academy) picked up second in 2:30.58.

The Lions took first through third place in the 1000 freestyle as freshman Michele Wilson (Millville, NJ/Millville) won the race in 11:33.20, junior Brittany Collyer (Forked River, NJ/Lacey Township) took second in 11:39.41 and senior Kristin Udicious (Cherry Hill, NJ/Gloucester Catholic) took third in 11:44.06.

Senior Ava Kiss (North Brunswick, NJ/Stuart Country Day) won the 50 freestyle after posting a time of 25.27, while freshman Jennifer Rashti (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill West) took first in the 200 freestyle in 2:05.75, while senior Lauren Pfeifer (Freehold, NJ/Red Bank Catholic) took second in the race in 2:08/33. Another one-two punch for the Lions came in the 200 individual medley as newcomer Melissa Wallace (Metuchen, NJ/Metuchen) won the race in 2:24.50 and sophomore Christine Falcone (Newtown, PA/Notre Dame) took second in 2:25.87.

Freshman Katie Zavoda (East Brunswick, NJ/East Brunswick) was the winner in the 100 freestyle in 56.99, while junior Emily Reichard (Voorhees, NJ/Eastern Regional) won the 500 freestyle race in 5:30.21 and newcomer Katie Morgan (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) finished in second in the race in 5:40.94.

TCNJ also won the 200 medley relay in 1:59.17.

Men\’s Highlights

TCNJ\’s junior diver Greg Lloyd (Ringoes, NJ/Hunterdon Central) continues his impressive campaign as he once again posted NCAA provisional qualifying scores in both the one and three meter events. Lloyd won the one meter with a score of 288.45 and took first on the three meter board with his performance of 340. 20.

TCNJ added a first in the 200 medley relay in 1:43.23 and the 200 freestyle relay in 1:30.92.

Freshman Tim Rauch (Hillsborough, NJ/Hillsborough) added an impressive time in the 1,000 freestyle as he won the race in 9:58.60, while rookie Shawn Kircher (Toms River, NJ/Toms River North) won the 50 freestyle in 22.30 and the 500 freestyle in 4:56.65.

Junior Mike Molloy (Toms River, N/Toms River East) added a first in the 200 backstroke in 2:00.61 and the 200 freestyle in 1:49.01. TCNJ actually took first through third in the 200 free as senior Jonaid Lone (Leonia, NJ/Don Bosco Prep) took second in 1:50.95 and freshman Peter Goldsmith (Eatson, PA/Easton Area) was next taking third in 1:51.49.

Rookie Joe Tseng (East Hanover, NJ/Hanover Park) won the 200 IM in 2:04.35 and sophomore Herman Chu (Long Valley, NJ/West Morris Central) won the 200 butterfly in 2:05.96. Freshman Andrew Hessler (Palmyra, NJ/Palmyra) won the 200 breaststroke in 2:17.82 as the Lions dominated the meet on Saturday.
