GLOUCESTER CITY, N.J. — Family, friends and veterans in Gloucester City welcomed home a Purple Heart recipient on Saturday.
Army Specialist Shawn Smierciak, who is stationed at Fort Benning, Ga., recently returned from a tour in Iraq, where he received a Purple Heart.
His mother, Nancy Gundle, said she is grateful her son is home.
