FLORENCE E. HUGHES, Gloucester City High School Alumni, Class of 1933

An Arwames Rebekah Service was held for Florence E. Hughes, 93, (nee Van Stine) of Collingwood, formerly of Gloucester City who died on December 13, 2008.

She was the beloved wife of the late John Hughes and loving mother of Jack Hughes (Sidney Anne) of Gloucester. She was the dear sister of Elva Cavallo of Monroeville and Harriet Riggins of Sicklerville and proud grandmother of Hope Poole (Steven), Jonathan Hughes (Marian), Jennifer Ravelli (Stephen and the late Blake Hughes. Her dear great grandchildren Rebecca, Jonathan, Jackson, Timothy, Harris, Isaiah and great god daughter Mercedes Johnson also survive her.

Florence was born and raised in Gloucester City and was a graduate of GHS Class of 1933. She was a member of the United Methodist Church of Mt. Ephraim where she served in the Women’s Auxiliary. Florence was also a member of the Arwames Rebekah Lodge of Gloucester City and the Sears Retiree Club of SJ.

Interment at Hillcrest Cemetery, Washington Twp.

THOMAS E. \”TOMMY\” PARKER, Gloucester County employee for 34 years

Religious Services were held for Thomas E. \”Tommy\” Parker, 53, of Woodbury, who died December 12, 2008.

Tommy worked 34 years for Gloucester County at the old Woodbury Courthouse. He was a life member of Colonial Manor Fire House and a volunteer for West Deptford and Woodbury Heights Ambulance. Tom had a passion for fire photography in surrounding area with award winning photos.

Loving son of the late Weaverly T. Parker and the late Mildred M. (late Joseph) LaPollo. Loving brother of Robert (Linda) Parker of Southern MD and William (Regina) Parker of Bellmawr. Beloved uncle of Dan, Jack and Sam Parker. Loving nephew of Howard R. Parker. Predeceased by his grandparents Dorothy and Edward McAleer.

KATHLEEN V. JAGIELSKI, 50 year member of the Brooklawn United Methodist Church

Funeral Services were held at Brooklawn United Methodist Church, Brooklawn, for Kathleen V. Jagielski, (nee Hudson), 68, of Southampton, formerly of Brooklawn, who died December 16, 2008.

Kathleen was a loyal 50 year member of the Brooklawn United Methodist Church, the senior choir and teacher of the nursery school. She was also a member of the Protestant Community Church in Medford Lakes. As a resident of the Leisuretown Community, Kathleen was happily involved in many activities. Foremost was her devotion to teaching line dancing and western dancing. Kathleen touched many lives with her lively, joyous spirit. She will be greatly missed by many.

Beloved wife and best friend for 48 wonderful years to her dear husband Walter. Loving mother of Walter (Kelley), Nancy, Joe (Sherry) and Matt (Krissy). Devoted grandmother of seven.

Interment was in Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson.

Hunting Deer and Shooting Trees

When the lead bullet rolled out of the end of the musket, the huge buck just seemed to smirk at my friend, pause, then run to tell his herd about the idiot who forgot to pack the powder! My friend hadn\’t hunted for twenty years, and recalled that the sarcastic deer \” … posed for a shot only 20 yards in front of me! I pulled the trigger and then, BOOM! Then turned to my partner and said \’Why isn\’t he falling!?

If you\’ve hunted, you have your stories. My uncle once fell out of his deer blind onto the deer while drawing his bow. Another friend had his belt snap while climbing a tree and hung upside down by his boots after being knocked out when he back of his head slammed the tree. Nearly died there while his son snuggled in his deer blind just a hundred yards through the woods.

CARL A. VAN GEMERT, of Gloucester City

Funeral Services were held for Carl A. Van Gemert, of Gloucester City, who died December 13, 2008.

Carl was a lifelong resident of Gloucester City, he attended Sharp School of Collingwood and worked for the Abilities Center of Southern NJ in Westville for 10 years. Carl enjoyed watching TV, especially the Phillies and the Eagles. He also enjoyed listening to country music.

Beloved son of Edna Van Gemert. Dear brother of Joan Donovan of Woodbury Heights, NJ, Elise Foster and her husband, Mark of Gloucester City, Beverly Bauers of Woodbury Heights, and Hendrick (Rick) Van Gemert and his wife, Wendy of Mullica Hill, NJ. Carl is also survived by 14 nieces and nephews.

Friends met at the Etherington-Creran Funeral Home, 700 Powell Street, Gloucester City. Interment was in Locustwood Memorial Park.

On December 29, 2008. Age 80. Of Cooper River West, Pennsauken. Formerly of Gloucester City. Loving and Cherished Daughter $\"cross$ of the late James C. Goldy, Jr. and Hilda A. Goldy (nee Volikler). Loved by the nurses, devoted staff and friends at Cooper River who took tremendous care of Elsie.

Relatives and friends at Cooper River West are kindly invited to attend her visitation on Tuesday from 9 am to 10 am at the McCANN-HEALEY FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Lutheran Memorial Service 10 am in the funeral home officiated by Pastor Lisa Barnes of Saint John’s Lutheran Church in Westville. Inurnment Land of Canaan Cemetery, Elk Township. There will be no evening visitation.
