One faction consists of the \”James Team\” of progressive candidates. – This slate consists of Dan Spencer-1^st Ward, Nick Marchese-2^nd ward incumbent and Jay Brophy-3^rd ward incumbent. This group believes in \”open government\” and has developed several citizens’ advisory groups to suggest ways to improve our community. They are \”people/people\”. They ask not what the city can do for them, but what they can do for the city.

Now on the other hand, there is the \”Gorman-Kain\” Team that hasn’t recovered from their defeat in November of 2007 (after 15 years of control). This group believes in closed government and feels that the public has no business being involved with the decision making process of local government. They are people who ask not what they can do for the city, but ask what the city can do for them and their families.

To the Editor:

I was married in that church in 1960, so I have been there for quite awhile.
I don\’t believe that Diocese of Camden Bishop Joseph Galante thought through the closing of this church very thoroughly. First, St. Patrick\’s Church in Woodbury (into which Most Holy Reedemer and St. Matthew\’s Church in National Park are to be merged) doesn\’t have sufficient parking spaces to accommodate three parishes.

The steps in front of St. Patrick\’s are very steep. The school there was closed for lack of students. They were sent, with the St. Matthew\’s students, to a combined school that now operates at the Holy Redeemer site.

The Anniversary Mass will be celebrated June 14 at 3 p.m. Attending will be former priests, choir members, etc.

After Mass, the parish will have a catered dinner in the newly renovated church hall. There will be dancing, with DJ Jim Kincaid.

The tentative cost for the dinner will be $20 for adults; $10 for children under the age of 12; and free for children under 6 years old. Everyone is invited to attend. Call the rectory at 931-1441, so there is an idea of how many guests will attend.

Trainers of many college and professional sports teams (including the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Eagles) are now passing out 2 oz shots of pickle juice to their athletes before warm weather games and practices. Some trainers say it’s the 600 mg of sodium that provides the benefits of reduced cramping and improved hydration. It is true that beverages with sodium cause fluid retention and that leads to better hydration. Some trainers and coaches say the vinegar in pickle juice is just the right concentration to restore electrolytes.
