Brooklawn\’s Republican Party Council Candidate Earl Foster issued the following statement:
\”Brooklawn’s Democrat Council recently voted to sell off additional Borough owned properties, despite mandated government restrictions. Grant monies were provided to help rehabilitate these properties on condition that the Borough provide and sustain the availability of affordable housing for a specified term. This Council intends to violate that covenant to the grant by passing on added deed restrictions to prospective buyers. If not unlawful, it is highly unethical. It is also compromises \’Affordable Housing\’ principles and guidelines.
Don’t forget! Members of this Borough Council sold a (Borough owned) three bedroom single family house at 500 Chestnut for $34,500. After numerous $1.00 transactions between LLC’s, this property was resold for $134,900. Unknown parties with a piece of this last transaction shared in this $100,000 profit at the expense of Brooklawn’s taxpayers. Citizens must act to demand a stop to the sale of additional Borough owned properties by this Council. We can’t afford their incompetence and personal agendas.
We, the Citizens of Brooklawn, have enabled indiscretion, irregularity, and impropriety to infect our municipal government like a disease. The recent resignation of one Council member; and, the imminent resignation of others, just isn’t enough to restore municipal integrity and virtue. But it’s a start.
Next steps towards good government in Brooklawn include your vote for Earl Foster!\”
