WOODBURY NJ JUNE 19, 2015–Maurice Brown (DOB 4/13/88) and Shannon Schonewolf (DOB 3/15/82) today (6/19) were each charged with endangering the welfare of a child, resulting from the death of their six-week-old son in a bathtub at the couple’s Inverness Apartments dwelling in Deptford Township NJ on JUNE 8, 2015.
Brown and Shonewolf were arrested at their residence by officers from the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office and the Deptford Township Police Department. The two were lodged in the Salem County Correctional facility in default of $100,000 bail each.
Deptford police were dispatched to the Brown-Shonewolf apartment at 11:41 a.m. on 6/8/15 for a report of an infant in cardiac arrest. An investigation by the GCPO and Deptford police determined that Shonewolf had fallen asleep in a bathtub for several hours with her son on top of her. When she awoke, the infant was unconscious and subsequently died at Inspira Hospital, Woodbury.
An autopsy by the Gloucester County Medical Examiner determined that the cause of death of the child was drowning.
