(Camden, NJ) – The suspect wanted for shooting a Camden County Police Department officer Wednesday night was apprehended after a three-block foot chase Friday in Collingswood by members of the U.S. Marshals Regional Fugitive Task Force, including Camden County Police Department detectives.
Following two days of around the clock investigation, Victor Bennett, 21, of Camden, was tracked down Friday afternoon to an apartment on the 200 block of Haddon Avenue in Collingswood. Members of the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force observed Bennett walking out of the apartment and ordered him to stop. Bennett ignored the orders and ran from the scene. Officers chased Bennett on foot for three blocks as he jumped fences and ran through backyards. Officers then observed Bennett trying to hide in a backyard shed on the 100 block of Wayne Street and placed him under arrest. He was found to be in possession of a loaded semi-automatic 9mm Sig Sauer handgun.
