(CNBNEWSNET)Sr. Janice M, Heery, OP (Sister Jean Michael), a Dominican Sister of Hope for 61 years, died at home on July 14, 2015 at the age of 78.
Sr. Janice was born July 22, 1936 in Woodbury, NJ and was in the first graduating class from St. Patrick’s School, Woodbury in 1950. She entered the novitiate of the Dominican Sisters of Newburgh in September 1954 after graduating from Gloucester Catholic HS. She made her First Profession in June 1956, and final Profession in August 1959 and earned her BA in elementary education from Mount Saint Mary College, Newburgh,NY.
Her lifelong ministry was in education. Among the places where Sister ministered are St. Brendan School in New Haven, CT, from 1956-61; Cathedral Elementary School in Raleigh, NC, from 1961-70; Saint Rose of Lima School in Haddon Heights, from 1970-71 and 1976-85; and Saint Cecilia School in Iselin, NJ, from 1971-76 and 1985-90. Since 1990 Sister Janice was ministering at Saint Rose of Lima School in Haddon Heights where she was a teacher of English, Science, Math and Religion in the Jr. High.
