Lieutenant has filed as the Republican candidate for the office of Camden County Sheriff. Republican Richard Begley, of Blackwood, who originally filed for the position has stepped down.

 A decorated police officer, who is the recipient of the Distinguished Valor Award, Hannon was born and raised in Camden City. He and his wife, along with their two sons, reside in Blackwood.  

Asked why he is running in the November election, Hannon said, \”I decided to run so that the sheriff\’s department can continue to have a leader that will demonstrate leadership, integrity and commitment to the men and women of the sheriff\’s department as well as the residents of Camden County. That we can grow and develop initiatives and programs that can assist the 36 municipalities in Camden County if they so choose.\”

Hannon retired from the City of Camden Police Department as a lieutenant While assigned there he served in the investigative division, patrol division, special operations, and operational support division. He was also president of Policemen\’s Benevolent Association Local 35, FOP Lodge 144 and the Camden Organization of Police Superiors (COPS).

Effort highlights health benefits of walking while addressing barriers to access

The United States Surgeon General today issued a call to action to address major public health challenges such as heart disease and diabetes. Step It Up! The Surgeon General’s Call to Action to Promote Walking and Walkable Communities articulates the health benefits of walking while addressing the fact that many communities unacceptably lack safe and convenient places for individuals to walk or wheelchair roll.

\”Everyone deserves to have a safe place to walk or wheelchair roll. But in too many of our communities, that is not the reality,\” said Dr. Vivek H. Murthy, the 19th U.S. Surgeon General. \”We know that an active lifestyle is critical to achieving good overall health. And walking is a simple, effective and affordable way to build physical activity into our lives. That is why we need to step it up as a country ensuring that everyone can choose to walk in their own communities.\”

Through the recognition program, the New Jersey Department of Education honors some of the state\’s most dynamic educators. The County Teachers of the Year are recognized for their valuable contributions to their school communities at the local level, and are given the opportunity to serve as ambassadors of education to officials at the state level. 

The County Teachers of the Year were recently honored at an orientation ceremony at the Department of Education in Trenton. The Department of Education celebrated the achievements of the teachers as they interacted with each other in a variety of sessions and took part in a panel discussion about educational initiatives.
