The Camden County Prosecutors Office Announces the Following

Woodbury, NJ – A jury found Jason L. Bailey, 48, of Paulsboro, guilty of multiple  offenses related to the sexual assault of a teenager Tuesday following an eight day trial before the Honorable Benjamin D. Morgan, Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns  announced.  

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in open court: On Dec. 10, 2023, Bailey committed acts of sexual assault on a girl between the ages  of 13 and 16. Upon his arrest for this offense, he refused to provide  a mandatory DNA sample as required by law. 

Bailey was convicted by the jury of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, second degree endangering the welfare of a child, third-degree aggravated criminal sexual  contact, and fourth-degree refusal to provide a DNA sample. 

The jury further determined Bailey to be a persistent offender based on his criminal  history. As a result, he faces up to life in prison and, if released, will be required to  register as a sex offender under Megan’s law and be subject to parole supervision for  life. 

Bailey’s sentencing is scheduled for July 10, 2026.

Prosecutor Johns thanked the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Special  Victim’s, Crime Scene Investigation, and Fugitive Units, and the Paulsboro Police  Department for their assistance in the investigation. 

Woodbury, NJ – Carlos Torres, 37, of Wilmington, Del., was sentenced to 5 years in  state prison Tuesday by the Honorable Russell A. DePersia for endangering the  welfare of a child pursuant to a plea agreement. 

According to documents filed in this case and statements made in open court: On July 12, 2024, police responded to an incident on Route 55 in Deptford  Township. According to the victim, she was driving when Torres grabbed the  steering wheel and forced the vehicle into oncoming traffic. During the incident, he  stated that he would make sure they “do not make it home.” A 1-year-old child was  seated in the backseat, and the victim alleged Torres had been drinking at the time.  

Torres was convicted of one count of second-degree endangering the welfare of a  child. 

Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns thanked the Deptford Township Police Department  and the New Jersey State Police for their assistance in the investigation.
