The project will replace the I-76/I-676 Bridge over the Main Branch of Newton Creek, the I-676 southbound Bridge over the Main Branch of Newton Creek and the I-76 Bridge over Nicholson Road. In addition, the project will improve safety and pavement conditions on I-76 and I-676, as well as replace noise barriers, upgrade drainage, update sign structures and install intelligent transportation systems (ITS) throughout the corridor.

Construction of precast bridge deck panels began last year and is taking place off-site. Replacement of the bridge decks is expected to begin in August 2026 and will require lane closures. NJDOT will provide advanced notification of any traffic impacts prior to work taking place.

This work supports the Sherrill Administration’s commitment to improving the transportation network that helps people and goods move safely and efficiently throughout the state.
