New Egypt (26-2) vs. Gloucester City (17-7) at Rancocas Valley in Group I: New Egypt is actually a two-time defending state champion and plays with the confidence one would expect from one of the most consistent programs in the area. The Warriors don’t have as much firepower as in years past, but they still play plenty of defense and have a dynamite pitcher in Alison Martino. A senior righty, Martino leads the area in strikeouts with 247. Among the more productive New Egypt hitters is Jamie Soles. Martino will be tested by a hard-hitting Gloucester team that put 15 runs on the board in the S.J. final. City will also be looking for revenge after getting gassed by Emily Bausher, 10-0, last year. Katie Boulden has had success in the circle for Gloucester, but New Egypt appears to have the pitching edge. In this sport, that’s huge.
