Baseball: Schroth delivers for Green Wave

The title is the third straight and 17th overall for Audubon (22-6), which won its final three playoff games by a run each time. The Green Wave will face Central Jersey champion Florence on Tuesday at The College of New Jersey. The winner plays in Saturday’s state final.

\”This means a lot to the program,\” said veteran coach Rich Horan, who’s directed the team to 10 sectional titles in his 21 years. \”It means the program is going in the right direction and the kids have that mentality that this is what we want every year.

\”The kids have confidence in each other. They’ve been in heated ballgames and have played a lot of tournament ball together. Three one-run wins says a lot. The kids are battle ready.\”

Schroth was also the winning pitcher, taking over for ace Andrew Schorr with no outs and Tyler Easterday on first in the fifth inning. Schorr, an East Carolina recruit, had yet to allow a hit but nine walks proved to be enough to make the change.
