This was supposed to be the \”in-between\” season for St. Augustine Prep.

The Hermits won the first state title in the history of the program in 2011. They have a fleet of talented juniors and sophomores, which bodes well for 2013.

But after a ragged start to the 2012 season, St. Augustine has been among the best baseball teams in South Jersey for the last six weeks. The Hermits have risen to No. 3 in The Inquirer\’s South Jersey rankings and will face No. 1 Gloucester Catholic in the Non-Public South A final Tuesday at Rowan University.

Rams roar. Gloucester Catholic (26-4) has won nine in a row to surge back into the top spot in the rankings.

Gloucester Catholic beat then-No. 1 Bishop Eustace, 4-0, in the South A semifinals Friday behind freshman righthander John Murphy, who pitched a four-hitter.
