press release
On June 25th 2012 the Bellmawr Fire Department’s Division of EMS offered a FREE CPR training class for Borough Residents. The class filled quickly with 25 participants. The class offering was inspired by the tragic loss of Retired Chief Tom Calhoun’s 5 year old son, Bradley, who drowned in a swimming pool accident July 2, 2011. Tom, who is CPR certified made a promise to educate the public about pool safety in an effort to reduce the number of families that would have to endure what his family has.
Tom and his family have spoken at several public events in order to get the word out. Chief Jim Burleigh of the Bellmawr Fire Department welcomed all of the residents at the beginning of the class; he thanked them for taking time out of their busy schedules to attend the training. He then made the statement\” hopefully you are not put into a position where you would have to use what you are about to be taught but if you ever are you will know what to do and be able to make a difference\”.
