TCNJ Student Athletes Honored

Ewing, NJ… A half-dozen student-athletes from The College of New Jersey received weekly citations by the New Jersey Athletic Conference for their performances during the week ending September 16, 2012.

The women’s tennis team swept their awards as senior Karisse Bendijo (Egg Harbor Township, NJ/Egg Harbor Township) was named NJAC Player of the Week, while Jasmine Muniz-Cadorette (Union, NJ/Union) claimed Rookie of the Week honors. Both athletes earned honors for the second time this season. Bendijo and Muniz-Cadorette were both 8-0 on the week and led the Lions to their 30th consecutive conference title.

Sophomore Erin Healy (Spring Lake Heights, NJ/Manasquan) was named NJAC Offensive Player of the Week in field hockey. She tallied goals in all three victories last week for the top-ranked Lions. Overall, she rattled the back of the cage four times and assisted on two more goals as TCNJ moved to 5-0.

Defender Christina Roach (Cinnaminson, NJ/Cinnaminson) helped another undefeated team on campus to a pair of shutout victories and was named NJAC Rookie of the Week. Roach contributed to a 3-0 win over FDU-Florham and a 3-0 triumph over conference opponent Ramapo College. The Lions surrendered a total of three shots in the two games combined.

In cross country, senior Cathy Goncalves (Clark, NJ/Arthur L. Johnson) was named NJAC Runner of the Week. She had the 11th best time of Division III runners at the YellowJacket Invite. Goncalves led the Lions to a seventh-place finish and placed 30th out of 360 competitors in the 6k event, clocking a time of 22:47.

On men’s side, freshman Jack Leahy (Westfield, NJ/Westfield) placed 50th amongst Division III runners with a time of 26:35 in the 8k event. He helped the Lions to a seventh-place finish out of 24 teams at the YellowJacket Invite and was named NJAC Rookie of the Week.
