PITTSBURGH – Jason Plumhoff (Ellicott City, Md./River Hill) netted the game-winning goal in the 34th minute and La Salle added two more in the second half, topping Duquesne 3-0 in the regular season finale on Sunday.
With the win and a Butler loss at Saint Louis today, the Explorers (10-6-3, 4-4-1 Atlantic 10) finished in a tie for seventh place with the Dukes (7-11-1, 4-4-1 Atlantic 10) and clinched their third straight Atlantic 10 Tournament berth. The tournament starts on Thursday in Charlotte, N.C., and the newly expanded tournament takes the top eight finishers. By virtue of their win over the Dukes, the Explorers claimed the No. 7 seed and will kick off the tournament at 11 a.m. on Thursday when they take on the second-seeded Billikens at Transamerica Field.
