PAULSBORO — It has been weeks since damaged train tankers were removed from a collapsed bridge in Paulsboro, but the long-term effects of the accident have yet to be felt. And while Conrail is offering settlements to residents, a plethora of local attorneys havecome out against the railroad organization’s recent actions.
A southbound train derailed over the Jefferson Street Bridge Nov. 30, sending four tanker cars into the water of Mantua Creek. One of those cars breached, leaking thousands of pounds of vinyl chloride — a toxic chemical used in making PVC plastics — into Paulsboro’s atmosphere.
