Billy Meyle III, Director Southern Hemisphere Fruit Operations at Holt Logistic, Gloucester City


WILLIAM H. \”BILLY\”, MEYLE III, 61, died December 29, 2012 at the Hospital of the University of

Pennsylvania following a brief illness. He was born August 2, 1951 in Newtown Square and lived there until 1999 when he moved to Mantua, New Jersey. Billy had been Director, Southern Hemisphere Fruit Operations, at Holt Logistics in Gloucester City since 1995. He joined Holt from Independent Pier Company in Philadelphia, a company which was founded by his great-grandfather, Emil Meyle in 1895. The Meyle Family, through Independent Pier Company, was a foundational part of Philadelphia\’s shipping community in the 19th and 20th centuries, a renowned company that employed generations of port workers.

 

 
Billy\’s father William and his Uncle Ken were fixtures on the piers and at maritime gatherings in Philadelphia where they enjoyed their own table at the fabled Bookbinders Restaurant near their offices at 3rd and Chestnut. 

 
Outside of his work on the docks, Billy was a dedicated family man. He is survived by his wife of 12 years Rebecca L. (nee Cotterell); and three children Harrison (Jessica) Meyle, Sally (Tony) Schufreider and Freddy; his mother Isabel (nee Spicer) Meyle-Keller and sister Colleen Chance.
Billy was an avid golfer and a member of Pine Valley Golf Club for 32 years. In addition to golf, he was passionate about rock music and the Grateful Dead traveling to see the band in concert around the world.

Services will be held on Friday, January 11, 2013, with visitation from 10 A.M. – 12 in St. David\’s Episcopal Church, 763 South Valley Forge Road, Wayne, PA 19087. Funeral services will begin at 12:00.
