There is no such thing as a free lunch. States believe that there is \”free\” federal money to vastly expand the broken entitlement system, Medicaid. I’m sure you’ve seen this government health insurance program for low-income individuals in the news, as governors around the country have been deciding whether they will take that supposedly \”free\” federal money.
Under the President’s health care law and last summer’s Supreme Court decisions, states must decide whether to expand their Medicaid system to include all individuals below 138% of the federal poverty level—approximately $30,000 for a family of four. Caring for the poor among us is so important, but this broken system is not the answer.
