LETTERS to the Ed: Heart Transplant Survivor Inspires South Jerseyans to Good Health

The American Heart Association reports about 2,200 U.S. patients receive heart transplants each year – and I was one of them.

This fall, I am proud to serve as survivor ambassador of the American Heart Association South Jersey Fall Heart Walk, scheduled for October 25 at Cooper River Park.

The American Heart Association emphasizes exercise to reduce and eliminate risk factors for heart disease and stroke, the No. 1 and No. 4 causes of death annually in the Garden State. Physical activity brings health benefits to the heart, lungs and circulation. The recommendation to exercise for 30 minutes or longer on most days of the week can easily be accomplished with a daily walk.
