GLOUCESTER TWP. MAN SENTENCED TO PRISON FOR MOLESTING TEENAGE GIRL WHILE SHE SLEPT

TRENTON – Acting Attorney General John J. Hoffman announced that a South Jersey man was sentenced to state prison today for molesting a teenage girl while she slept and distributing child pornography on the Internet. The charges stemmed from a child pornography investigation by the New Jersey State Police and the Division of Criminal Justice.Bernard Cahill, 55, of Gloucester Township (formerly of Folsom), was sentenced today to 14 years in state prison by Superior Court Judge Bernard E. DeLury Jr. in Atlantic County. Cahill pleaded guilty on Aug. 12 to second-degree charges of sexual assault and distribution of child pornography. He was sentenced to seven years in prison for each of the two charges, with the sentences to be served consecutively. Cahill will be required to register as a sex offender under Megan’s Law and will be subject to parole supervision for life. In pleading guilty, Cahill admitted that he penetrated the 16-year-old victim sexually with his fingers while she slept.
