David G. Stauffer, Sr., aged 73. Born in National Park, NJ on May 8, 1941 to Sarah (Evans) and Horace Stauffer. Married to Edna (Yurick) Stauffer for 46 years. Father of Christine Corbett (Tom) of Pine Hill, NJ, David, partner of Steven Belanger, of Davenport, FL, Michael of Washington Twp, and the late Vicki; Grandfather of Ryan, Randy and Victoria Idler; great grandfather of Ysabella. Survived by siblings, Mary Hummel, Anna May Spirk, Margaret Stauffer, Dolores Evans, and Lourayne Karvoski. Dave was preceeded in death by his parents and 4 siblings, Sonny Stauffer, William Stauffer, Ruth Clements and Emma Hummel.
Dave graduated from Woodbury High School in 1959. He began working for the Gloucester County Times after being a paper boy. He started in the press room and self taught his way into chief photographer , and finally Director of Photography, completing 35 years of employment. During that time, he received many state and national awards for his photos. In 1975 he was included in the \”Who’s Who in the East\” for his outstanding accomplishments in photography. Dave was also a volunteer fireman with the Good Will Fire Company and served as a Police Cadet for the city of Woodbury. He was an Army Veteran serving in both the Army Reserve and National Guard during the Cuban Crisis.
For many years he volunteered with the American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery Program and received the ACS State Volunteer of the Year in 1995. He worked as a softball and baseball umpire for many years. His love of the game and his interest in girls sports led him to founding the Deptford Girls Softball Program in 1974. He served as its president for 9 years. In 2007 he was inducted into the first group of Deptford’s Volunteer Hall of Fame, and in 2012 he was inducted into the Deptford High School Sports Hall of Fame as a contributor to the Sports Program.
He will be fondly remembered by family and friends for his love of cooking and baking, his traveling experiences, his favorite dwarf \”Grumpy\”, his love for Diet Pepsi and red
M&M’s, and his role as a dedicated family man.
Friends and Relatives are invited to David’s Visitation on Tuesday night from 6:30PM – 9:00 PM and Wednesday morning from 8:45 AM – 9:45AM at McGUINNESS FUNERAL HOME, 573 Egg Harbor Rd., Sewell, (Washington Twp.) NJ, 08080; Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 AM in Infant Jesus Parish at St. John Vianney Church, 2901 Good Intent Road, Deptford, NJ. Interment Eglington Cemetery, Clarksboro, NJ.
