The Gloucester County Animal Shelter is reminding everyone to keep our furry family members safe this holiday season. Many popular holiday plants can be dangerous — especially to cats and dogs — but there are plenty of beautiful, pet-friendly alternatives!
Safe to Gift:
• Spider Plant
• Christmas Cactus
• Boston Fern
• Orchids
• Pinstripe Calathea
Avoid These Toxic Plants:
• Lilies (all types) – Severely toxic, especially to cats
• Mistletoe – Moderate to severe toxicity
• Poinsettias – Mild toxicity
• Holly – Moderate toxicity
• Amaryllis – Moderate toxicity
If your pet ingests a toxic plant:
Remove any plant pieces from their mouth and call your vet or an emergency hospital immediately. Keep the plant name handy and do not induce vomiting unless instructed by a veterinarian.
