Davis, Lamanteer Lead #8 Rowan to DH Sweep of Vermont State Castleton

Freshman Kyle Lamanteer hit two home runs and Brayden Davis added one in #8 Rowan’s 7-3 win over Vermont State Castleton, paving the way for a doubleheader sweep while the Profs captured the second game, 14-3, in seven innings. Rowan (3-0) hit a total of six home runs on the day in the rescheduled game played at Diamond Nation.  

Davis went 7-for-8 at the plate on the day, with a total of five doubles in the two games. He also drove in four runs and scored two. 

GAME 1

The game was tied 2-2 heading into the bottom of the second when Lamanteer launched the first homer of his Rowan career over the centerfield fence, to bring home Mason Dorsey, and give the Profs a 4-2 lead. Davis’ single scored Nick Struble, and the Profs had a 5-2 lead. 

Lamanteer, who  went 2-for-4 with three RBI, hit a solo shot in the fifth inning to give Rowan a 6-2 lead. The Spartans got one back with a home run of their own before Davis finished off the win with a solo home run in the eighth inning. 

Ben Schild (1-0)  made his Rowan debut and went 4.0 innings and struck out two, while Evan Brasberger tossed 5.0 strong innings to earn the first save of his career. 

GAME 2

Trailing 1-0 in the first, Rowan scored five runs in the bottom half of the inning. Struble had an RBI single and Jason Schooley drove in two runs with his base hit, while Davis and Luke Bickunas each had RBI doubles. 

The Profs scored four more in the second and third innings by taking advantage of wild pitches and walks to go up, 9-1. 

Castleton added two more runs in the sixth inning but in the bottom of that frame, the Profs put on a home-run derby. Kevin Cole led off with a shot over the centerfield fence for the first of his career and then Dorsey singled, setting up a two-run home run by Evan McCoach, also his first as a Prof. Rowan went back-to-back as Damon Suriani hit his first round-tripper of the season. Davis hit his third double of the game to bring home Struble and give the Profs an 11-run lead. 

Reliever Nick Watson kept the Spartans from scoring and ended the game with a successful pick-off at second base. Austin Kreyenhagen (1-0) earned the victory in 5.0 innings of work with seven strikeouts. 

Rowan heads south for the RussMatt Invitational this week and will play eight games from March 12-20. First up is Keystone on March 12 with a 6 p.m. start (note new time).
