Dear Cleary\’s Notebook Readers:
I am very proud to drop you this note to let you know that I have been accepted for membership in the prestigious Jersey Surf Drum and Bugle Corps, based in southern NJ. I have successfully completed the \”audition\” and we are now rehearsing in preparation for our 2009 competitive season, which takes place in the summer. As a member unit of Drum Corps International — \”Marching Music’s Major League,\” it is very exciting for me to be a part of one of the world’s most exclusive and elite marching music ensembles! We’re coming off of our most successful year ever, capturing a Bronze Medal at the 2008 Open Class Championships in Bloomington, IN. This year’s going to an historic one for us, as we ascend into the ranks of the elite \”World Class,\”and we hope you’ll have a chance to \”check us out!\”
If you are not familiar with our group and the activity in which we are involved, I would like to ask for just a minute of your time to tell you a little about it. The Jersey Surf is made up of 150 musicians and dance performers between the ages of 14 & 21, who come to be a part of our organization from throughout the United States. We are interested in furthering our musical
and performance education and becoming trained as future leaders through our involvement with The Jersey Surf.
