For the first time in a long time, Brooklawn water rates are increasing.

\”It has been 20 years since there was an increase in the water rates,\” said Borough Clerk Barbara Lewis during the recent Borough Council meeting.

\”Did you say 20 years?\” several council members asked.

\”Yes, I did say 20 years,\” Lewis repeated. \”Since 1989 the rates have remained the same. This year the borough is faced with a $16,000 deficit in the water budget.\”

Council passed an ordinance on first reading raising the water charges to $50 per quarter.
