The Gloucester City Sail’s Schooner \”Northwind\” hosted a workshop for teachers in our area to learn about the ‘All Hands on Deck’ program. It started at the Gloucester Community Hall on Nicholson Rd with a Continental breakfast and introduction.
Even with the rain, they proceeded to the ‘Northwind’ for an instructional cruise from 11 AM until 1:30 PM. After the cruise it was back to the Community Hall for a catered lunch and more sharing of ideas until 3 PM.
The program was conducted by the NJ Marine Consortium/ NJ Sea Grant and sponsored by the NJ Department of Transportation.
Participants included two teachers from Gloucester Junior/Senior High School and two teachers from Gloucester Catholic High School.
While on board the ‘Northwind\” the teachers participated in stations including: Water testing and analyzing, Netting plankton and examination, Physics of Sailing and knot tying, finally, Navigation and steering the ‘Northwind’.
The day was enjoyed by all even though the sun did not arrive until they were back at the dock.
This workshop was to prepare our teachers for ‘Student Cruises’ next season.
