Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Rob Andrews joined Senator Robert Menendez and Winslow Fire Department Chief Terrence Osborne to announce a grant award totaling $479,250 for the Township’s fire department. Awarded under the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program, these grants are designed to help
communities meet their firefighting and emergency response needs by providing assistance towards the purchase of critically needed equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles, training programs, and other resources needed to ensure community safety. Winslow’s grant will be used to replace over 100 self-contained breathing apparatuses, a device worn by first responders to provide breathable air in life-threatening conditions.
\”The air packs purchased with this federal grant will help bolster fire operations by giving our first responders the ability to breath longer in toxic smoke conditions,\” said Congressman Andrews. \”At a time when towns are faced with difficult budget decisions, this boost in federal funding represents hundreds of thousands of dollars in savings that can help elevate the department’s operating costs, improve its efficiency, and sustain the jobs of its non-volunteer staff without burdening the taxpayers.\”
\”New Jersey’s communities are blessed to be served by the brave men and women of our fire departments,\” said Senator Menendez. \”This
