Paul Kelly, president of the San Jose POA in California, makes a powerful case for reconciliation.

by Paul Kelly, President, San Jose Police Officers Association

About a month ago, I was working in full uniform in a marked police vehicle when I was pulled over to the side of the road in our downtown area. I watched two young African-American teenagers, each one probably around 18 years old, walking across the street right in front of me. Both couldn’t take their eyes off me. They both stared at me with what appeared to be anger and disgust.

Oldmans Twp Resident Bill Miller and Crew Wins Heaviest Mako Shark Category

More than 100 boats hit the water each year in an attempt to hook sharks, compete, and enjoy team sportsmanship at the South Jersey Marina in Cape May — one of the largest shark tourneys in the state.

The Salem County team, Miller Mania II, won the heaviest Mako shark category after duking it out alongside other participants from all over the region including Maryland, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New York.

But for the Miller crew, the money and win was not the prize, but the thrill and experience of hustling more than an hour to reel in the 295 pound Mako shark.
