Only hook-and-line and spear fishing will be allowed in designated zones

DOVER (June 12, 2015) – The National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) has established Special Management Zones (SMZ) at four of Delaware’s Atlantic Ocean artificial reefs under a new rule that was published in the Federal Register and will go into effect July 9. DNREC’s Division of Fish & Wildlife began the SMZ designation process in 2011 to limit fishing gear permitted on the four reefs and thereby eliminate gear conflicts between commercial and recreational fishing and to ensure compliance with restrictions under the federal Sport Fish Restoration program recreational fishing funding used to establish the reefs.

 \”They all say \’it\’s so early,\’ but they are so excited to see it,\” said Jamie Crescenzi, an employee at the farm market on North Broadway in Pennsville Sunday. \”They say \’it\’s finally here.\’\”

Local? This early? For sure. The corn is grown by market owner Fred DePalma who goes to extraordinary lengths to have it ready as early as possible for his customers.

While most sweet corn is planted directly into the fields where it will eventually mature, DePalma starts his earliest corn in greenhouses near the end of February or beginning of March.

DOVER (June 12, 2015) – To achieve public compliance through education and enforcement actions that help conserve Delaware’s fish and wildlife resources and ensure safe boating and public safety, DNREC Division of Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police officers between June 1-7 made 1,743 contacts with anglers, boaters and the general public, including 129 vessel boardings for boating safety and fishing regulation compliance checks. Officers responded to 42 complaints and issued 34 citations, four of which were related to the C&D Canal Conservation Area and associated recreational trail, where there is an increased Fish & Wildlife Natural Resources Police presence.
